The aim of the project was to fly over entire Croatia in various types of vessels, to get to know our country from above, to photograph the known treasures, and discover new ones. The mission of the project was to raise awareness of the necessity to protect natural heritage, the beauty and treasures of Croatia, as well as promoting sustainable tourism.
The project resulted in about two hundred first-rate and never before seen photographs, most of which reveal a completely different view of well-known cultural and natural heritage in Croatia, and some unveil completely new valuable sites and attractions. All of the photographs have been included in the remarkable photo monograph “National Geographic – Croatia from Above”. The mission of the project is to raise awareness of the need to protect cultural and natural heritage, Croatian attractions and treasures in general, as well as to promote sustainable tourism. The fact that the photographs have been published in no less than six stories in the prestigious National Geographic magazine is the best proof of their quality. My artistic approach has earned me the prestigious American National Geographic editor’s award. The project has been supported by Croatian president Ivo Josipović, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, UNESCO, Croatian National Tourist Board, and more than a hundred different institutions.
In order to present the project results in the best possible way, the KEK team, together with external collaborators, designed a solar-powered traveling exhibition. From 2014 to 2016, the exhibition was hosted 25 times all over Croatia, and it represented Croatia at the greatest world exposition, EXPO in Milan. Thanks to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Croatia House Foundation, we have made a smaller gallery exhibition, which travels all around the world and promotes our beautiful country.
From 2015 to 2017, we organized 220 exhibitions of “Croatia from Above” posters in high schools all over Croatia. In 110 schools, I opened the exhibition with lectures on Croatian cultural heritage and the need for its protection. The project has received a recommendation by the Education and Teacher Training Agency, and was supported by the Ministry of Science and Education, as well as the Ministry of Culture (UNESCO).
